ONLY half of parents plan to top up their offspring's Government- funded Child Trust Fund, says a survey.

Nearly two-thirds pay in less than £200 a year.

Among parents making extra contributions to their child's savings account during the coming year the average amount paid in is just £19 a month, says friendly society Family Investments.

But parents are keen for family and friends to also contribute.

Some 41% said they thought other people close to their child would pay money in, while 48% said they would like the Government to do more to encourage other people to contribute.
