MOTORISTS would probably agree with today's report from MPs that Britain's parking enforcement is in "a mess".

It does seem both both "inconsistent and confused" that while some parking offenders are dealt with by police others in neighbouring areas are dealt with by local councils.

In Kirklees it's all change from next month when the council takes on responsibility for parking enforcement, although whether the motorist will notice any difference remains to be seen.

But certainly on a national scale - and we all visit other towns and cities - the call for more consistency in the way parking rules are signed and the penalty charges are issued and enforced makes sense.

And while we're at it, let's try and end the chaos, confusion and danger caused by irresponsible parking outside most schools each morning and teatime.
