RAVENSKNOWLE Children's Gala was still packed full of fun - despite being downsized.

Organisers were forced to use a field half the usual size because Moldgreen School has temporarily moved on to part of Ravensknowle Park.

But there was just as much on offer yesterday as ever before.

Fat Friends star Paul Warriner, who played a sexy vicar in the TV smash, was a VIP guest.

Funfair rides, charity stalls, traders, and other attractions were dotted round the busy park at Wakefield Road.

The party started on Saturday night with a talent contest for youngsters. One star of the show was a diminutive lad appearing as Justin Hawkins from the band the Darkness.

Yesterday afternoon began with a procession through the surrounding streets before gala queen Charlotte Kelly was crowned.

On the main stage, Tony Junior, children's entertainer Trumble and Danceology wowed the crowds.

Mid-way through the afternoon, 800 children aged between four and 14 tucked into a treat of crisps, fizzy drinks and other delicacies provided by the gala committee.

Committee chairman Keith Saul said: "We have managed to squeeze everything in. It's working OK and we have been extremely lucky with the weather."

The gala committee will start planning for next year's event on Thursday .

Anyone wishing to help should meet at Moldgreen Liberal Club at 8pm.
