HUDDERSFIELD teenager Michael Dyson was starstruck when he won a competition to meet top pop band Liberty X.

Lucky Michael, 15, of Almondbury, and two friends got to party with the chart toppers at an exclusive reception.

Michael had opened a Dairylea Dunker snack to find he was one of 2,000 lucky people to win tickets to take part in a quiz run in conjunction with Channel 4's Popworld show.

Michael travelled with his mother Heather to see Liberty X play at a gig with Tommy and D Side at London's Ocean Club.

They joined 500 of the finalists while they were there.

The finalists at gigs in London, Newcastle and Birmingham were posed questions on pop music.

Michael was one of the 10 winners in London who answered correctly.

Each of them won the all-expenses paid trip back to the capital.

Michael and his friends from Almondbury High School - Shaun Hollas and Danny England - travelled to London on Friday of last week with the 29 other winners from all the participating gigs.

They stayed at the exclusive Marriott Hotel in London and attended a reception with Liberty X and other pop stars Abs, D Side, Blazin' Squad, Tommy, Cleo, Sarah Whatmore and Javine Hylton.

They then took a trip on the London eye with Liberty X members Kelli and Tony.

Michael's adventures with the stars at to be screen on Popworld on Channel 4 on Sunday.

Mrs Dyson, who accompanied the boys, said: "There were screaming fans as we went in and there were body guards.

"The lads were over the moon. They couldn't speak. Their faces lit up - we were treated like royalty. It was absolutely fantastic, the trip of a lifetime."

She added: "At first Michael nearly threw the tickets away. He didn't believe he had won and I checked and had to tell him it was not a con."
