ONE of Yorkshire's leading social housing providers is celebrating its 30th anniversary by throwing a party in a park for its customers.

Yorkshire Metropolitan Housing is inviting customers to a Hallowe'en party at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park, West Bretton, on Friday.

The organisation is responsible for more than 5,000 homes in Yorkshire and parts of Lancashire. It is part of the Yorkshire Housing Group, the county's largest housing association.

Yorkshire Metropolitan Housing started as a tiny organisation, employing just a handful of people in 1974. It has grown to be come of the region's major providers of social housing.

Its director, Roy Wallington, said: "From the outset the association has been dedicated to improving the quality of people's lives by providing good-quality, affordable homes.

"We look forward to continuing that work by creating places where people want to live and ensuring that homes and neighbourhoods meet our customers' aspirations."

Louise Darby, new initiatives manager for the Yorkshire Housing Group, who is organising the birthday party said: "The sculpture park is a superb location for a day out and we are planning a fantastic party, with fancy dress, games for children and displays and exhibitions from the 1970s.

"We will be catering for hundreds of people."
