ONE of Huddersfield’s biggest nightclubs has closed.

The Visage and Glitterball complex at Folly Hall closed its doors after revellers finished their last night of partying on Saturday.

Oxfordshire-based CanDu Entertainment, which took over the venue from previous owners Luminar Leisure last year, announced the closure yesterday.

The company says tough market conditions mean they need to carry out a major redevelopment of the complex if it is to be successful.

Plans for a relaunch are being drawn up, but in the meantime the club will remain closed.

Some of the staff have been given jobs at other CanDu venues, but those who have not been moved have been offered redundancy terms.

Sean Cullen, general manager of Visage and Glitterball, said: “In toughening market conditions it is necessary to carry out a significant redevelopment of the venue in order to meet changing demands.”

The complex has been operating for 14 years, during which time the venues have undergone a series of name changes, including Ethos and Jumpin Jaks.

Mr Cullen added that the venues had been supported well by Huddersfield people over the years.

He added: “CanDu entertainment would like to thank all the staff and customers for their commitment over the past 14 years.”
