A MAN remains seriously ill in hospital after a crash at Salendine Nook.

The 35-year-old back seat passenger suffered serious head injuries when a black Vauxhall Vectra smashed into a lamp- post at the bottom of Moor Hill Road outside the Moor Hill Shopping Centre, Salendine Nook, at 11pm on Sunday.

The man, who has not been named, was taken to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary and then transferred to Leeds General Infirmary for specialist treatment.

His condition was described as "very poorly" today.

The driver was arrested and has been released on police bail pending further inquiries.

Another of the four men in the car was slightly hurt.
