RAIL passengers had their journeys disrupted after fumes poured from a train.

Fire crews from Huddersfield and Elland were called to Huddersfield railway station at 6.15am yesterday to deal with the incident.

The drama happened on a First TransPennine Express service from Manchester into Huddersfield.

Huddersfield watch commander Andy Blackburn said: “We used thermal imaging cameras to make sure the temperature didn’t increase.

“An engine fault had developed and it was an oil leak which had caused the fumes.

“The driver did the right thing by releasing the extinguishers built into the engine.

“The train was stopped to await an engineer so he could check it over and move it back to Manchester.”
