A TIMBER boardwalk has been built to help walkers use a Honley nature reserve.

The 200ft path at Upper Park Wood local nature reserve, off Station Road, has been created by volunteers from conservation group BCTV.

The aim is to help people use the muddy path and reduce current and future damage to the woodland floor.

The volunteers - from Wakefield and Dewsbury - have put the finishing touches to the boardwalk.

They have worked with the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust management committee, who manage the site for the landowners, Kirklees Council.

The work has been paid for with a £5,500 landfill grant by Waste Recycling Environmental Ltd (Wren).

Repairs to boundary walls on the site will be carried out over the next few months, paid for by Wren with a donation from Kirklees.
