FUNDRAISERS in Huddersfield and Calderdale have raised £½m to help cancer patients in the area.
Two new Macmillan nurse specialists have been funded through local fundraising efforts during last year.
And cash has also been used to extend support to patients and families in their homes as part of Calderdale Macmillan Care Project.
In addition, the appeal funded a GP facilitator to enhance links with primary care and other health professionals and share specialist skills and knowledge.
Macmillan provides grants for patients in financial difficulty and this service, too, was funded through the local appeal.
Michelle Norcliffe, fundraising manager, said: "It is a wonderful achievement to raise half-a-million pounds in one year and it illustrates the dedication and support Macmillan receives from the public in this area."
The fundraising appeal will continue as a new health care professional is needed for the area. The appeal aims to fund a specialist dietician to work with oncology patients during and after their treatment.
