HOLLYWOOD star Patrick Stewart is taking on a new kind of role in his next film - as an animal.

He is one of the voices in live action/animation movie Racing Stripes, about an abandoned zebra who grows up believing he's a racehorse.

The Mirfield-born actor is part of an all-star cast that includes Whoopi Goldberg and Dustin Hoffman.

It's set in Kentucky but was filmed in South Africa, the easiest place to find trained zebras.

The film is scheduled to hit screens in Britain next February.
