The fine voices of top local choirs made for a special night in Salendine Nook.

The ever-popular Concert on the Hill took place at the YMCA featuring a quartet of local choirs and the renowned sporano Julia Garbutt.

She was joined on stage by Lindley Band, Colne Valley Male Voice Choir, Honley Male Voice Choir and the award-winning Lindley Junior School choir.

The outdoor event has a Le Tour theme to it, but stuck to the British flag-waving songs music-lovers are used to from Land of Hope and Glory, Rule Britannia, God Save the Queen and, this year, La Marseillaise, complemented by a fireworks finale to the 1812 overture as the enthusiastic crowd waved flags.

David Hutchinson attended the event with wife Laura and friends John and Kath Turner and he said: “It’s always a brilliant concert, nice to sit out with a few drinks and listen to wonderful music. And I think it being this weekend has made it all the more patriotic, for Yorkshire of course.”

Concert on the Hill has been staged at the Laund Hill Sports ground for 14 years and it raises funds for Huddersfield YMCA RUFC and local charities.
