HUDDERSFIELD designer Paul Williams has been shortlisted for the leading Homes and Gardens Classic Design Awards.

His Under Bath Storage Unit is among the 16 entries that will be competing for the award.

The design utilises the unused storage space under a bath.

Paul said: "The concept is a range of furniture specifically designed to utilise the dead space underneath a standard acrylic bath and to provide usable and attractive storage."

The winner will be judged from a panel that includes designer Jasper Conran and David Marks, designer of the Millennium Wheel.

Paul, who works for Jacuzzi UK in Bradford, said "If I win, it would be recognition of the role of design within the UK manufacturing arena and a realisation that good design can be used to solve a problem and provide an attractive solution."

The awards, sponsored by the Crabtree and Evelyn cosmetics firm, are in their fifth year.

The winner will be announced at an awards ceremony in the Victoria and Albert Museum, London, on Thursday.
