A Dalton man has appeared in court after flouting his driving ban.

Paul Carr, of Briggate, admitted charges of driving while disqualified and using a vehicle without insurance.

Prosecutor Alex Bozman told Kirklees magistrates that the offences happened on August 1.

Carr was stopped by police as he drove up Dalton Green Lane alone.

A roadside check revealed that the 48-year-old held only a provisional licence and had no insurance.

Police later discovered that Carr had been subject to a driving ban since his conviction in 1999 for drink-driving.

He was banned from the road for three years but had to pass his test again before being able to reclaim his licence.

Peter Hampson, mitigating, said that his client usually had a driver. “On the day in question the driver was not available and he got in the car.”

Magistrates fined Carr £550 and ordered him to pay £85 costs and £55 victim surcharge. They banned him from the road for a further six months.
