A SPORTY student has won a top award for his athletic achievements.
Paul Willis was named as the most promising junior male newcomer for his cross country running.
The partially sighted student at Brighouse High School only recently entered his first race.
But the 15-year-old won the race and is determined to keep on running.
Barbara Littlewood, sports teacher at the school, said: “Paul’s achievements in such a short space of time have been fantastic.
“He is a credit to himself and our school.”
He is a member of the Halifax Harriers Athletics Club and has been invited to join the Great Britain Paralympic training squad.
Paul won the npower Federation of Disability Sports Awards 2008 awards.
The awards recognise the achievements of some of Yorkshire’s finest disabled athletes and aims to raise the profile of disability sports.
