A YOUNGSTER who overcame a double operation on his ankle has celebrated his Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award.
Greenhead College student Paul Taylforth was presented with his certificate by the HRH The Earl of Wessex at a prestigious day of events at St James’ Palace. Paul travelled to London with hundreds of other young achievers following the culmination of their 18 month long, five stage Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) programme.
Paul said: “The DofE has had a big impact on my life, the skills I have gained and I shall still continue to use even after I have received my Gold Award.”
Paul worked tirelessly during his DofE, recovering from two keyhole operations while also volunteering at Moorlands School, qualifying as a rugby union referee and taking an expedition to Iceland. His experiences have now helped him to decide to study to be a primary school teacher at Leeds Trinity University.
