SUPER science teacher Paul Dunn is the best in the country.

He has been named as the 2006 Teacher of the Year for ICT in Practice.

The award, from the British Educational Communications and Technology Agency (Becta), recognises excellence and exemplary practice.

Mr Dunn, who teaches at Royds hall High School, Paddock, said: "The aim is to make lessons fun and, using ICT, you can appeal to students who like to see, do or listen to information."

To achieve the award he was judged on his teaching in the classroom by a panel of judges and then had to give a presentation at the final, held in Coventry in September.

His work will be used as a model to show other educational institutions across the country what can be achieved through the use of technology in the classroom.

Mr Dunn added: "I'm so pleased to be a winner, as it is public recognition that we must be doing right at Royds Hall.

"It will also give me a greater opportunity to share the good practice of our specialist science college with other teachers."

Mr Dunn, 42, who has taught at Royds Hall for 16 years, wins £2,500 and the same amount for the school.

He previously taught at All Saints High School, Bradley Bar and Batley Boys' High School.

He is married to Belinda, and they live in Kirkburton with their three sons.

Mr Dunn will be celebrating his success with other winners and runners-up at Bett, the educational technology show, in London in January.

A Becta spokeswoman said: "The ability to inspire and motivate learners and colleagues is a common theme throughout these awards."
