A FIRM making scalp coolers to reduce hair loss among cancer patients has been hailed as one of Yorkshire’s champion exporters.

Paxman Coolers, based at Penistone Road, Fenay Bridge, was among the winners of the Going Global Awards 2010, which are designed to recognise regional companies growing their business through international trade.

The firm was one of six award winners in the competition, which is organised by regional development agency Yorkshire Forward and the Government’s export support arm UK Trade and Investment. The awards attracted more than 60 entries.

Paxman Coolers won the award for Best Market Entry Strategy. The company was rewarded for tripling growth in three years after using the Yorkshire Forward-funded Targeted Export Support Scheme to access the French market.

The company’s scalp cooling equipment is used to reduce or prevent hair loss in patients undergoing certain types of chemotherapy. Patients wear a “cold cap” which helps lower scalp temperature and restrict the amount of chemicals reaching the hair follicles.

Operations director Richard Paxman said: “To receive such an award is a great honour and recognition for all the hard work and dedication of the Paxman team in entering what is a difficult market.”
