WOMEN civil servants were lobbying MPs today to complain about the "scandalous" 25% gender pay gap in Government departments.

The activists will urge politicians to help close the gap, which is much higher than the national average.

Janice Godrich, president of the Public and Commercial Services union, which organised today's lobby, said: "The gender pay gap in the civil service has actually increased by 3% to 25% in the last few years.

"Today's lobby is about highlighting this scandal and asking the Government to put its own house in order.

"For a Government which talks about tackling inequality, it's time it started to practice what it preaches among its workforce."
