MORE than a million local government workers have been given a “cheapskate” pay offer, according to union leader.

Home carers, teaching assistants, bin men and park keepers are among the groups offered 2.45%.

Delegates from the union GMB will decide their stance a conference on April 24.

National secretary Brian Strutton said: “We are very disappointed with this cheapskate offer. Those at the top of local government have had 11% pay rises over the past two years, while the rest have got half that.

“The hard-working people delivering front-line council services to the public deserve better.”
