A MOTORWAY service station now has its own police community support officer.

Elaine McGuinness will be based full-time at Hartshead Moor Service Station on the M62 near Brighouse.

She will be there to tackle crime, provide a police presence and distribute crime prevention advice to thousands of travellers.

The service area's owners, Welcome Break, joined forces with Calderdale police and Calderdale Safer Communities Partnership to fund the full-time post.

Chief Insp Steve Cotter, of Calderdale Community Safety Department, said: "Motorway service areas are unique environments that are not usually policed in the same ways as other populated areas.

"We have been working very closely with Welcome Break during continuing refurbishment work to help them design out crime and create a safer environment for people."
