PEDESTRIANS behaving badly are putting themselves at risk.

The West Yorkshire Casualty Reduction Partnership says people make silly mistakes on the region's roads.

And they have put names to the kind of things they do:

* "Railing rodeo riders" - who jump over safety railings usually next to busy dual carriageways and then dodge through several lanes of traffic.

* "Pushchair roulette" - usually played by young mums crossing between parked cars while shoving their children out first into the traffic.

* "Green man gamblers" - who can't be bothered to wait for the green man at pedestrian crossings and cross the road in front of traffic.

* "Gormless grown-ups" - who flout safety rules such as the Green Cross Code in front of their children, giving them a bad example.

* "Kamikaze kids" - who run out on to roads at any place and any time without looking.

* "White line weavers" - who walk halfway across the road and then wander down the white line between lines of traffic.

Statistics show the most dangerous place for pedestrians to cross in Huddersfield is on the ring road at its major junctions.

In Dewsbury nearly all child pedestrian accidents happen on Saturday afternoons.
