A RUSSIAN man peered through the gaps in shop changing room curtains to watch naked women, a court was told.

Details of the exploits of Ivan Michalovskis, of Town Crescent, Leeds Road, emerged when he appeared at Bradford Crown Court yesterday.

The 44-year-old pleaded guilty to voyeurism between December 2008 and June 2009 in Huddersfield.

Stephen Wood, prosecuting, said shop staff had seen Michalovskis loitering in the Jane Norman and Miss Selfridge shops in the Kingsgate Centre.

He said the father-of-two had a hole in his trousers so he could perform sex acts on himself while he watched.

Michalovskis was arrested on June 3 in Miss Selfridge.

When initially questioned by police he said he was in the shops to look at the beautiful clothes.

Later he admitted he had gone in to look at pretty women and hoped to see their breasts.

He said he knew the women were getting changed behind the curtains.

Mr Chudi Grant, defending, said the offence had been “wholly unpleasant” and his client had been responsible for “reprehensible behaviour”.

He said Michalovskis, a married man, felt guilty ashamed, and remorseful.

He said the defendant had never gone further than trying to glimpse the women getting changed.

Recorder Julian Smith said of the behaviour of Michalovskis: “It’s a very troubling image for anyone learning about it.”

Michalovskis was given a community order of two years which includes one-to-one supervision to address his behaviour.

He will sign on the sex offenders’ register.
