PENNINE Brass are the 2006 Thameside Open champions!
Ian Porthouse and his team roared back in impressive fashion after the disappointment of their fifth place in the the Area Finals at Bradford.
Their rousing performance of Blitz gave them 190 points, two more than Timperley, with David Evans, and with Marsden (Riverhead Brewery) conducted by Glyn Williams, another point back in third position.
First horn player and band spokeswoman Gemma Gould says it was the band's first return to Thameside for a while. But it clearly paid off.
Now the band, with about threequarters of their members under 30 and with musicians from the Royal Northern College of Music and with other university graduates, are hoping that they can live up to their undoubted promise at the next big outing, the Grand Shield in May.
