PEOPLE with learning difficulties have been offered extra help in Huddersfield.
The charity Mencap this week launched the Safe Places scheme in Kirklees to create a network of shops, offices and public buildings that will become places of refuge for people with learning disabilities when they are in trouble – for instance if they have lost their bus pass or are being harassed.
The first Safe Place will be established at Huddersfield and Dewsbury bus stations in September.
People with learning disabilities and their families can learn more about the programme at two information sessions.
The first takes place at Mencap’s office on Waverley Road, in Huddersfield town centre next Thursday at 6pm.
The second session starts at 6pm on Thursday, September 6 at Branches Day Care Centre in Batley.
