HUDDERSFIELD motorists can expect lower petrol prices following a sudden drop in the cost of crude oil, industry experts said.

Leeds-based supermarket chain ASDA cut its price at the pumps to 99.9pa litre this week in response to a 10 dollar drop in the price of crude to about 60 dollars a barrel.

Chris Stern, of CJ Stern (Oils) Ltd at Paddock, said other petrol retailers were likely to follow suit.

Mr Stern said: “With more people taking holidays at home due to the recession, this has to be good news for the holiday motorist.”

Mr Stern said the fall in forecourt prices was no surprise, but said the Government’s decision to increase fuel duty from September 1 meant prices would bring prices back above £1 a litre.
