PHILIP Rounding, the Mirfield former heart patient who cycled just over 1,000 miles for charity has raised a total of £1,206.
He completed the solo cycling marathon, from his home to the island of Majorca, on May 28 and then enjoyed a well-earned holiday on the Spanish island.
It took Philip (61), who has had a quadruple heart bypass and has a pacemaker, just 14 days to cycle to Barcelona, where he caught the ferry to meet up with his wife Janet in Majorca, where the couple have a holiday home.
Philip averaged 75 miles a day and says he encountered few problems. "I was a bit tired on the fifth day but took it easy on the sixth and after that I seemed to get stronger and stronger.
"It was a bit scary cycling round Barcelona and if I was to do it again I'd change that," he said.
In fact, Philip enjoyed his trip so much that he would like to do the same route once more - this time with a cycling companion.
He will be presenting the money raised to the British Heart Foundation.
