PEOPLE have been urged not to ring Huddersfield fire station to report fires or serious incidents.

The station has received three calls recently from people reporting grass fires.

But firefighters say people must always phone 999 instead if they see a blaze.

Leading firefighter Brian Rhodes said: "If people phone us direct we need to make a note of it and contact our control room before we can go.

"With a 999 call we are being alerted as the message is being taken, which saves vital time."
