BUDDING photographers helped to launch a charity calendar.

Thirteen amateur photographers in the upper Colne Valley were presented with framed artwork of their shots.

Their photographs of local scenes will appear in the 2009 calendar, which was launched at Marsden Mechanics Hall on Monday.

Amateur photographer Ian Hunt’s shot was selected for the cover of the calendar.

He is followed by Jan Stephan Szyszlo (January), Emma Platt (February), Will Kane (March), Janet Grady (April), Barry Lockwood (May), Martin Taylor (June), Mel Pegg (July), Heather Croft (August), Stephanie Beat (September), Nigel Keith (October), Dilys Lonsdale (November) and Mick Corton (December).

Judges Alison Campbell, a jewellery designer, Neville Kenyon from the Huddersfield Canal Society and Ataul Nadeem, photographer at Marsden sponsors Andel PPL, studied 300 photographs before making their decision.

The calendar is now on sale at the Marsden Information Point, which organised the competition, and at Marsden and Slaithwaite libraries and village shops.

Each of the winners were presented with a framed enlargement of their photo and a copy of the calendar at an awards night on Monday.

The sale of the calendars will help light-up valley villages this Christmas. Proceeds will go to the Marsden and Slaithwaite Christmas Lights Committee.
