HUDDERSFIELD’S proud textile past and present is captured by this striking photograph.

Marsden dad Robert Bray is the weaving supervisor at Bradbury Contract Fabrics, which is based in Britannia Mills at the bottom of Crosland Moor.

Over the last year 38-year-old Robert has become increasingly interested in photography and now has his own Flickr account.

But he is exceptionally pleased with this photograph called Desolate taken on the fifth and top floor of the mill where he works.

“The sun was just going down and I’d been taking photographs looking out across the Colne Valley,’’ he said.

“As I was about the leave that floor I turned around and saw the sun shining in through the window.

“It was an amazing sight and although I initially took the shot in colour, I turned into black and white because it was more atmospheric.’’

The mill was built in 1861 and some of the fabrics stored on the top floor have been there a while.

The company now specialises in cloth for office furnishings.

Robert is married to Sarah and the couple have a two-year-old son, Isaac.

His first photograph exhibition will be in A Month Of Sundaes ice-cream parlour in Marsden in March and April.
