HUDDERSFIELD butcher Andrew Jones tackled a tough 50-mile charity cycling challenge.

Andrew, 44, took part in the Pedal For Pounds cycle ride around Wharfedale for the second year running.

The event was organised by Yorkshire Cancer Research and covers a route of tough terrain, taking in Harewood House, Wetherby, Otley and Fewston Reservoir.

Andrew, who cycles each week with Brighouse Mountain Bike Club, said: “A lot of relatives on my mum’s side of the family have died of cancer, so I took part last year. I enjoyed it and decided to do it again after I lost a close friend this year to cancer.

“I didn’t realise until I did the ride that the route goes past my grandma’s old house at Huby, which really personalised it for me.

“Riding through my home valley of Wharfedale brought back memories of family members who have passed away over the years and made me feel very humbled.”

Andrew had a target of £500 in sponsorship.
