A mini gay pride festival has been put together after Yorkshire’s most popular LGBT gathering was axed for the second year running.

The Pink Trail – a crawl of five gay-friendly pubs in Huddersfield town centre – will take place on July 27.

The trail, featuring The Wellington, Queens Tavern, The New Union Bank, The Olde Hatte and The Albert, was confirmed following the cancellation of the Pink Picnic 2014 last week.

Proceeds from the trail will go to Kirkwood Hospice and the Brunswick Centre, which provides sexual health services in Kirklees and Calderdale.

More details on the Pink Trail will be released next month.

Pink Trail organiser David Spencer said: “Following the recent announcement of the cancellation of this year’s Pink Picnic, the LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender) community and five town centre bars have united again for the second year running to run the Pink Trail.

“This was trialled last year and proved to be a great success.

“Huddersfield as a town has always been proactive in promoting social integration and bringing different communities together for a common purpose.

“This event brings together gay and straight bars to help the town celebrate 28 years of Huddersfield Pride which has traditionally been celebrated on the last Sunday in July.”

Mr Spencer added: “The event is solely funded by the bars are who are working together to put on a fantastic line-up of entertainment.

“Each bar will be putting on a live entertainment, food stalls and drink promotions and it promises to be yet again a great day out.”

A Pink Trail pub crawl was also announced last year after the Pink Picnic 2013 was cancelled following allegations that committee funds had ‘gone missing’.

Former Pink Picnic chairman Paul Johnson was arrested but later released without charge before the investigation was closed.
