AN apprentice from Honley has been voted as one to watch in the building industry.

Piotr Fieldsend, 24, won an award for personal effort in National Construction College awards.

The plant operations apprentice got a trophy and £100 cheque.

Delighted Piotr said he had not expected to win.

"I went to the college to improve myself as a plant operator and that's exactly what I have done," he said.

"I can now operate more machines and have been able to get a better job."

He was employed by TK Lynskey Excavations during his training at the college campus in Bircham Newton, near King's Lynn, Norfolk.

Piotr received his award from Sir John Gains, Mowlem group chief executive.
