A jobless dad who has spent days appealing for work at the roadside will soon be replacing his handmade placard for a job.

Jason Allen, a dad-of-three from Fartown, has been bombarded with job offers since stationing himself on busy Wakefield Road in Aspley days ago.

He has so far received 15 offers of work, with jobs ranging from landscape gardening to bricklaying and roofing.

The 36-year-old has also had a few more unusual propositions, including a marriage proposal and a ‘cheeky’ request to paint an entire house.

“I’m a bit shocked at all the good feedback,” he said.

“I’ve had a lot of good offers and I’ve got three interviews lined up for Monday morning and quite a few other offers I need to follow up.

“I’ve had some really good comments from people saying ‘keep it up lad’ and another person said if he lived in Huddersfield he would give me a job.

“There’s been some bad feedback and one guy rang me up asking me to paint his house for him and he was being really clever and cheeky.

“But it’s really made my day (seeing) the comments on the Examiner website.

“I’m just shocked by the outcome. I wasn’t expecting somebody to take a photo of me and send it into the Examiner.”

Jason captured the attention of members of the public with his handwritten cardboard sign with the words: “Lookin for work. Do any type of job”.

He has held a variety of jobs and says he has plenty of qualifications but has been out of work for several weeks since finishing a labouring job.

Jason, whose partner Heather works as a cleaner, has vowed to remain at the roadside until he gets a job that pays a decent wage so that he can support his family.

He said: “I’m willing to do anything. As long as I can provide for my family I’ll do anything.

“I’m still going to do it (stand outside) until I get something that pays good and something that I’m going to enjoy as I get bored with repetitive work.

“I’m not one for signing on – there’s too much of that going on and there are some people who deserve it (benefits) out there.”

Jason can be contacted on 07745 396913.
