CHILDREN aged between eight and 13 will get vital cycle safety training.

The youngsters have been invited to attend indoor cycling courses in the February half-term holiday.

The courses are run by Kirklees Council's road safety unit to help children to ride bikes safely on roads.

They are aimed specifically at those who got new bikes for Christmas.

Clr Ann Denham, who has council cabinet responsibility for environment and highways, said: "I hope many children will come along with their bikes to these free courses.

"They offer an opportunity for the children to enjoy cycling and learn how to do it safely."

The courses are free of charge and take an hour a day for three days from Monday February 14 to Wednesday February 16.

The courses will be held at Batley Sports and Tennis Centre, Windmill Lane, Howden Clough, Batley, starting at 10am each day.

Children need to provide their own bike for the courses.

Anyone who would like to book a place should ring the sports centre on 01924 326181 for an application form.

Completed forms must be returned before the start of the course. There are a limited number of places.
