PLANS to convert the former Marmaville Club at Mirfield into flats have been shelved.
Developers Darren Smith Builders have withdrawn an application to create 71 flats on the site at Church Lane.
There is already planning permission to convert the former club to 45 flats, but the builders had applied to Kirklees Council for permission to increase this to 71.
The flats would occupy the same space as the original 45, but the plan had greater implications for traffic and car parking.
The developers' planning consultant, David Storrie said the application had been withdrawn because of time constraints on the planning process.
He said: "Councils have targets set by Government to determine applications in a certain time.
"With this application, there were concerns from the highways department over car parking. There was not sufficient time for us to sort out those concerns.
"We have withdrawn the application to stop the clock ticking and take the pressure off Kirklees," said Mr Storrie.
The applicants plan to resolve highways officers' worries and then re-submit their application.
