A PLAN to recruit local people to help in medical emergencies could be launched in the Denby Dale area.

It will be discussed at the next meeting of Kirklees Council's committee for the area.

The meeting is at 7pm on Thursday, March 10, at Scissett Middle School, Wakefield Road.

It starts at 7pm.

Neil Marsay, of the St. John Ambulance, will give a presentation on a project to recruit people to train as "first responders".

These volunteers play an important part in emergency situations by getting life-saving skills to patients quickly.

In areas like Denby Dale they are likely to be able to reach a patient within minutes and provide vital care until an ambulance arrives.

First responders must be over 18 and in good health.

If you are interested in volunteering to help save lives in the Denby Dale district phone Jeremy Pease on 01484 607845 (after 6pm on weekdays).
