A FORMER police station has a new owner.

Lockwood police station at the bottom of Lockwood Scar is the new home of an electrical firm already based in the area.

Fern Electrical has applied to Kirklees Council to extend the building and turn it into an office and storeroom.

Kirklees planners will have the final say on the application.

The company was set up more than 20 years by Linthwaite man Andy Markowycz and was based first on Old Leeds Road, near the back of Huddersfield Sports Centre.

Since 2002 the firm has been in a building on the David Brown Gears site on Park Road, Lockwood.

Mr Markowycz, 44, was brought up in Lockwood and went to Moor End Technology College at Crosland Moor.

His mum, Stephania, still lives in the Lockwood area.

He said: “It’s great the company is staying in the area.’’

The company does industrial, commercial and domestic electrical work.

Mr Markowycz employs four electricians and needs a further two highly skilled ones to complete his team.
