ANTI-SOCIAL behaviour will be top of the agenda as a council prepares to review its strategy.

Calderdale Councillors will discuss a report into the way they and its partners deal with anti-social behaviour.

One idea is to form a dedicated anti-social behaviour (ASB) service.

The review comes after the tragic case in Leicestershire of Fiona Pilkington who killed herself and her disabled daughter following years of victimisation.

Brighouse councillor Colin Stout, chairman of the Safer and Stronger Scrutiny Panel, said: “Anti-social behaviour is one of the greatest issues of concern for people living and working in Calderdale and we need to work closely with our partners to do all we can to tackle it.

“The move towards an integrated ASB service in Calderdale is definitely a step in the right direction and will make it easier for victims to report problems and allow agencies to work together more effectively on prevention and intervention.

“We need to build on the lessons learned from previous cases to effectively tackle ASB in Calderdale and ensure that communities are empowered and engaged to make them part of the solution.”

This Thursday councillors will view a report which includes how Calderdale residents view ASB and how effective the actions by the council are to prevent and address it.

It will also outline the initiatives underway in Calderdale and those planned for the future.

A survey by West Yorkshire Police, conducted last December, shows that 16% of people think anti-social behaviour is increasing.
