COUNCILLORS have refused permission for homes at an equestrian centre.

The owners of Low Fold Farm, which is in Little Lepton, had asked Kirklees Council for the right to construct 14 houses at the site.

The farm, off Green Balk Lane, currently has 66 stables and provides riding courses for 60 Kirklees College students.

Thirty-one residents wrote to the council opposing the homes plan.

Their objections included:

The development would be inappropriate in the green belt

The proposal would double the size of Little Lepton

Green Balk Lane could not cope with the extra volume of traffic.

The council’s Heavy Woollen Planning Sub-committee yesterday backed residents by voting unanimously to refuse permission.

Sub-committee member Clr Andrew Pinnock said: “It’s fairly obvious that this would be inappropriate development in the green belt.

“It’s also in an unsustainable location.

“It’s miles away from any shops and it will never be on a bus route.”
