PLANS for a 25m high wind turbine at Outlane have been submitted to council planners.

The Lee Hill Riding School and Livery at Swan Lane wants planning permission for the turbine.

If backed, it would be on a 25m tall tower with blades which are 9.6m in diameter.

A report to Calderdale Council’s planning committee said the scheme “provides environmental, economic and social benefits to the farm and the wider community whilst any social impacts have been minimised”.

The riding school says it is looking for more “financially viable ways to sustain the school” and that they are “concerned about the ongoing rise in cost for energy”.

The report adds: “Installing one wind turbine is considered the best option for providing renewable energy production at the school.”

The wind speed at the site is said to have been recorded at 5.1 metres per second, which is excellent for micro generation wind turbine.

If approved, the wind turbine would be in a field to the east of the riding school.

Calderdale Council planners say the public consultation on the plan ends on January 13 and a decision can be expected on January 20.
