AN EXPERT in town planning has received the OBE from the Queen at Buckingham Palace.

Prof Peter Roberts, 57, of Kirkheaton, was honoured for services to regeneration along with urban and regional planning.

He attended the investiture with his wife Josephine and son Richard.

Prof Roberts said: "The Queen asked me if I was busy and commended me to keep up the good work!"

Prof Roberts is professor of regional planning at Liverpool University, but also works on regeneration programmes across the country.

He has also been involved in regeneration issues in Kirklees, working with Huddersfield Pride and chairing the Town Centre Strategy Group for Huddersfield's Renaissance Town Initiative for two years.

He is a former chairman of European strategic planning at Dundee University and has given advice to many UK and European Governments as well as local authorities.
