HOLME Valley Mountain Rescue team is one step closer to being granted permission to build a new HQ at Meltham.

The group, which is regularly called to help stricken walkers or assist in police searches, has applied for planning permission to build a HQ centre at Robert Ashton Memorial Park, Meltham.

But the plan for the site, off Huddersfield Road, would take over one currently redundant allotment and go against council policy.

Kirklees Council Planning Sub Committee approved the plans but the final decision will be determined by Kirklees Council Planning and Highways Committee.
