GRANDPARENTS of a Dewsbury mum have begged for help to track down the so-called “Facebook fugitive” suspected of her murder.

Batley couple Geoff and Catherine Camponi, both 75, were speaking after police recovered the car of suspect George Appleton.

The badly burned body of their granddaughter, 36-year-old Clare Wood was discovered at her home in Salford last Friday.

Ms Wood, an ex-pupil of St John Fisher Catholic High School, grew up in Dewsbury.

She moved to Greater Manchester after marrying and had a daughter, now aged 10.

Mr Camponi said: “How can someone do this to another human being?

“I just hope they catch the man and put him away for a long time.”

Police are searching for Ms Wood’s ex-boyfriend Appleton, 40, who is described as a serious threat to women.

He is known to prowl online dating and social networking sites including Facebook looking for women.

Detectives issued a warning he might attempt to communicate with women via the internet.

They found his red Ford Escort estate car on Tuesday close to Manchester city centre.

It has been seized for forensic examination.

Anyone with any information about Appleton’s whereabouts should contact police on 0161 856 7878, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
