AN animal charity has a message for dog owners - never leave your pet in a car in warm/hot sunny weather.

In such cases a dog could be literally cooked alive in minutes, says the RSPCA.

Huddersfield RSPCA spokeswoman Carol Catchpool said: "Dogs cannot lose heat like we do. They suffer and die very quickly.

"This call needs to be repeated this summer, over and over again, until people get the message," she added.

"Each summer, our inspectors have to release dozens of dogs from scorching cars.

"Unfortunately, some die because of their thoughtless owners."

The RSPCA has launched a poster campaign to protect dogs.

Anyone who sees a dog left in a parked car on a warm day is asked to ring 0870 5555999.
