COUNCILLORS are calling for urgent action to stop "school-run congestion" in Crosland Moor.

Liberal Democrat councillors Ian Ruttter and Mohammad Sarwar want highways officers to introduce parking restrictions on Dryclough Road.

The road leads to a site which houses Crosland Moor Junior School, Dryclough C of E Infant School and a nursery unit.

The councillors claim around 1,200 children are leaving school in a 10 minute period.

And they say it is only a matter of time before someone is seriously injured or killed.

"Dryclough Road is parked up completely on both sides and the road is turned into a one-lane carriageway," said Clr Rutter.

Clr Sarwar added that local residents were blocked in by school-run parking and couldn't get out of their homes.

"Local parents are contacting us almost daily about this matter and we urge highways to take action now before it is too late," he said.
