HUNDREDS of kittens and cats abandoned by their owners are looking for new loving homes.

The RSPCA is appealing for animal lovers to take in one of the 142 kittens and cats that have been dumped by their owners since spring.

The animals are currently being cared for at the Bradford and District Branch Animal Clinic, which is at full capacity and is unable to take in anymore injured, unwanted or abandoned animals.

Mandy Miller, Animal Clinic manager, said: “The centre has never been as crowded with cats and kittens as it currently is and it’s heartbreaking to see so many animals without a permanent home.

“Staff are working round the clock trying to care for them all and are doing a great job, but it’s hard for them to give each cat and kitten the complete level of attention they need.”

Caring staff at the centre say the dramatic influx of kittens is down to a large number being born to stray cats.

Mandy added: “We have cats to suit every personality and household and hope there may be people out there willing to give these cats a second chance of happiness.”

One cute kitten, named Toby Tibbs, was found dumped in a bin next to a bus stop at just three to four days old.

He was cared for by animal care assistant Joanne Lee, who said: “It’s shocking that anyone could abandon such a defenceless, young animal.

“When the inspector brought him in to us I just knew I had to take him home and look after him.

“There are so many animals needing help and you feel like you’re really making a positive difference to their lives.”

If you and your family can offer a loving home to one of the kittens or cats, call the centre at Mount Road, off Leeds Road, Bradford, on 01274 723 063. It opens Monday to Friday, except Thursday, 10am to 4.30pm.
