A plucky pensioner thwarted a bag-snatch thief in Golcar.

The 66-year-old woman was attacked after leaving a charity shop in the village but foiled the thief.

Despite being badly shaken, she chased after the robber and he flung the bag back at her.

The incident happened on Monday at 5.10pm, as the pensioner left the Forget Me Not charity shop in Swallow Lane, Golcar.

The thief ran up and grabbed her bag from her shoulder.

Police said the lady - who is partially sighted - bravely gave chase and the bag and all its contents were eventually thrown into the road by the suspect.

She was very shaken up by the incident.

The suspect was described as a white youth, aged 14-18 yrs, 5’ 4” tall and of very slim build, wearing a dark coloured hooded top.

A spokesman said: “Were you in the area at this time? Did you see anyone matching that description hanging about? Did you witness this incident?

“If you have any information that you think may help us, please call 101 and quote 13/16/014957. You can also call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where you can pass on information without giving your name.

“Incidents such as this are thankfully very rare, but please make sure you are always aware of your surroundings and keep bags and handbags close to you.”
