TWO workers at Huddersfield University were delighted when they had letters from Prime Minister Tony Blair.

The messages confirmed that the departments run by Janet Clowery and Sue White had received the Government's Charter Mark for customer care.

Introduced by Mr Blair, the Charter Mark is awarded to any public sector organisation that displays a level of "excellence" in customer service.

Sue, who is the university's head of library services, said she was pleased with the honour.

"We set up a working party to lead our Charter Mark application, who worked for about a year to ensure we met the various standards," she said.

Janet Clowery is resource centre manager in the School of Applied Sciences.

She said: "There was quite of lot of paper evidence required and because we are not a large team, we had to fit it all in around our everyday working commitments.

"But we got there, and it's great to receive our letter from Tony."
