HUDDERSFIELD people have created poems about the town - which are to be published through mobile phone text messaging.

Huddersfield-based company Blink has created a new technological system called Cell Renewal, which allows anyone in Huddersfield to have a free poem about a town sent to their mobile phone in the form of a text message.

They can then add their own poems or comments to the message and send it on to another person using the Cell Renewal system.

The first poems to be made available through the system have been created by a group of Brackenhall and Bradley people attending writing classes with a professional poet.

Poet Eugenia Moses worked with people at Brackenhall Community Centre and the St John's Centre at Bradley.

To read a poem using Cell Renewal, just send the word crl by text message to 07781 471 038.

If you want to send a poem to Cell Renewal, send it on a text message to 07781 471 038.

Andrew Wilson, Cell Renewal project manager, said: "The best of these poems and comments will also be added to the system for other people to read, creating a text message book about Huddersfield, written by the people who live and work there."

Cell Renewal is part of the Writing Renewal project, managed by Interculture.

It is funded by CIDA, the Government office for Yorkshire and Humber, Kirklees Council Neighbourhood Renewal Unit and Arts Council England.
